Carpenter's Mortuary Spook House - a Northwest Arkansas Haunted House Attraction

Here are some frequently asked questions about Carpenter's Mortuary Spook House:

Q: How many people can be in my group?

A: No more than four.  ~  This group size limit offers the best experience for guests (larger groups result in a conga-line that distracts from the scary atmosphere and prevents some guests from experiencing Carpenter's Mortuary Spook House to the fullest), and it has always been our strong recommendation.

Q: Do you take credit cards?

A: Yes we do. Tickets may be purchased at our ticket booth with a card.  Regular tickets are $15, Fast Pass tickets are $25. (Also, we do not accept checks, candy wrappers, or bat hides as currency). When online tickets are available you may click here to get them.

Q: What's the difference between a Regular Ticket and a FAST PASS?

A: A 'Regular Ticket' purchased from the Ticket Booth at the attraction is often the best way to go early in the season.

A 'Regular Ticket' purchased online allows the visitor to skip the Ticket Booth line and join the Regular Ticket holders' line upon arrival.

If you are concerned about waiting in a long line (which is common during the final two or three weeks of the season), we recommend that you come to the event before purchasing tickets, assess the line length for yourself; and if the line is too long for your liking, purchase a 'FAST PASS' ticket at the Ticket Booth. FAST PASS tickets allow guests to skip the regular ticket holders' line and get to the attraction entrance much sooner (but not always immediately).

Q: Is it scary?
Short answer: It's terrifying to most visitors.

Long answer: We, the creators of Carpenter’s Mortuary Spook House, firmly believe that haunted attractions shouldn’t have to be all about intense fear. We have attended many of the largest haunted attractions in the nation, and we don't think these events were ‘bad’ simply because they didn’t ‘scare’ us. The totally immersive experience at these places is amazing!  ~  Most people think Carpenter's Mortuary Spook House is scary. It occupies an historic ninety-year-old building that was once a working mortuary, and we sure think it’s scary! But scariness shouldn’t be a haunted house’s only quality. You can enjoy one even if it doesn’t terrify you. It’s like watching a horror movie: We have watched The Exorcist dozens of times; it remains our very favorite film. Yet we’ve never once been frightened while watching it. Carpenter’s Mortuary Spook House is first and foremost an art project created by the artists of Mortuary Studios. Its purpose is to provide visitors a fun Halloween experience. Some visitors find it extremely scary; others simply delight in the scenery and view it as a traditional part of their Halloween season.

Q: Is it different every year?

A: Somewhat, but not completely. Many haunted attractions create an entirely new set each season. That’s awesome!

But since Carpenter’s Mortuary Spook House occupies the historic building that once served as Gentry’s funeral home, we’ve chosen to create a more permanent installation; one that stays true to the Haunted Mortuary theme throughout. That said, we do strive to improve the imagery each year; often adding special effects and props, while retaining many of the spooky elements our returning visitors have grown to love (and expect) year after year.

Q: Are you open Halloween night?

A: Typically yes. Be sure to see our yearly calendar on the Dates and Times page!

Q: Do you offer any group or other discounts?

A: Not at this time. We do give away LOTS of tickets during our Facebook promotions, so be sure to LIKE and FOLLOW our page.

Q: Are you open if it’s raining?
A: Yes. Our attraction is indoors, and weather doesn't affect our operation. We have a large indoor waiting area for ticket holders, as well. But, the 'Buy Tickets' line forms outdoors. So, if you arrive without a ticket when it's raining, you may get wet. :)

Q: What about parking?

A: Carpenter’s Mortuary is located on Main Street in Gentry, Arkansas. Parking is free, and our entrance is a short walk from any of the spaces.

Q: Can I get out if I want to?
A: Yes, we have some “chicken” doors.

Q: If I am too scared to go in, can I get a refund?
A: You can do it! You're braver than you think! Remember, it's like a roller coaster or a horror movie; it's only SIMULATED fear!

Q: Who should NOT enter Carpenter's Mortuary Spook House?
A: People who are intoxicated and prone to violence while they're intoxicated. (If you are this type of person, and you attend our event, you will likely be arrested by the Benton County Sheriff's Deputies who are always on site.) People with heart conditions, pregnant women, people with weak bladders, people who have seizures or any other medical condition. Please see our Warnings page for all our General Warnings and our Waiver of Liability.

Q: Are you wheelchair accessible?

A: First of all, we're happy to share that Banshee Manor in Fayetteville is fully wheelchair accessible! Check them out!

~ That being said, we at Carpenter's Mortuary Spook House LOVE our visitors with disabilities; and even though wheelchair access inside Carpenter's Mortuary Spook House is limited, we will do everything in our spooky power to help guests with wheelchairs have a wonderful Halloween experience! The attraction itself occupies a very old building with narrow hallways, tight corners, and narrow doorways that are part of the original permanent structure; but depending on your personal situation, some of it is still traversable by those using wheelchairs. Plus: The interior of our queue room, our merchandise shop, and the exterior of the attraction are all fun and entertaining spaces; and visitors using wheelchairs can easily enjoy them. If you use a wheelchair and would like to visit Carpenter's Mortuary Spook House, CONTACT US; we'd love to help you plan your visit!

Q: If I’m in line at closing time, will I still get in?
A: Yes, our haunted house is open until all victims in line get to experience Carpenter’s Mortuary Spook House. Ticket sales will end at the posted time. WARNING: IF YOU BOUGHT TICKETS ONLINE, YOU MUST ARRIVE BY 11pm SHARP TO ATTEND - NO EXCEPTIONS!!

Q: How do I avoid long lines?
A: The best way to avoid a long line is to come to the event, check out how long the line is when you arrive, and if it's too long for your liking buy a FAST PASS ticket! You'll definitely get in faster than in the regular line.  Also, early in the Halloween season is the best time to come if you don’t want to wait in line. If you'd like to avoid the 'buy-tickets' line, get your online tickets here (when available).

Q: Will the actors touch me?
A: Nope. Like nearly all haunted attractions, Carpenter’s Mortuary Spook House has always had a “no touch” policy. We ask that you do not touch our actors or any of the props that are in the haunted house. Of course, we realize that in close quarters, minimal contact is sometimes unavoidable. But, as we stated on our Warnings page: We sometimes see adult men go through raising their fists and threatening to punch every actor they see. This type of person should consider this: If haunted houses frighten you that badly, you shouldn't go to one. What you're doing is not only an embarrassment to you and an inconvenience to nearby patrons, it's also illegal. Police officers are on site during all operational hours.

Q: Should I come if I'm drunk?

A: You'll need to stay sharp and use all your concentration to survive a trip through Carpenter's Mortuary Spook House!

Seriously, drunk visitors create a dangerous situation. If our outside staff sees evidence of this, you'll be asked to leave, and the police who are on site will be notified. DO NOT PLAN TO ATTEND IF YOU ARE INTOXICATED! Benton County Deputy Sheriffs are on site during all operating hours.

Q: Can I bring my kids?
A: Our haunted house is recommended for children 13 and up. Every child is different, and we ask that you make the judgment call as to whether or not they will be able to make it through. We require children under 13 to be accompanied by an adult. And remember, we cannot give refunds for children who become too frightened to finish going through the haunted house. WE DO NOT ALLOW CHILDREN TO BE CARRIED INSIDE THE ATTRACTION!

Q: Is there a different price for children?
A: No, our pricing is simple. $20 for a Regular Ticket. $30 for a Fast Pass (available at the ticket booth only).

Q: Can I come in costume?
A: Sure. It’s Halloween time! But WE DO NOT ALLOW VISITORS TO WEAR HALLOWEEN MASKS! This creates a safety hazard.

Q: Can I bring my camera?
A: No recording devices are allowed inside Carpenter’s Mortuary. (Camera flashes and video lights are a dangerous distraction and ruin the atmosphere.) However, please take lots of shots outside the Haunted House - the queue line room is a great place for selfies! All we ask is that you share them with us on Facebook (Facebook.com/mortuarystudios) and Instagram (#carpentersmortuary).

Q: Can I become an actor at the Haunted House?
A: For more information visit our Be an Actor page.

Q: How can I get more information?

A: Please email us through our Contact page. We’ll be glad to answer any questions you have.
